Connected Through Common Interests and Experiences

We’re a product of this wonderful multi-racial and multi-ethnic society.  We love the fact that two people from opposite sides of this planet can come together and be a family. In our opinion, we are the typical American family.  Our openness to other cultures makes us believe that we will love an adopted child, and be able to provide the experiences that will help him or her explore his or her native culture, whatever that happens to be.

One of our greatest passions is to travel. We’ve had the fortunate pleasure of being able to travel to some beautiful places.  We visited Italy for our honeymoon, spent time in Hawaii, Japan, Malaysia, England and Canada and have traveled throughout parts of India. We regularly travel to Idaho to visit James’s family and to Texas to visit Uma’s family.

We have a dog, Jade. She’s a black lab and can be considered our first child. She’s almost 9 years old and very spoiled. Jade is well trained, well behaved and loves children. Her favorite activity is to go to the beach. We have many nieces and nephews and we adore them all. We’re especially close to Uma’s sister’s daughters, Anjali and Shalini.

Uma

I am originally from India.  My parents stressed the importance of education throughout my childhood. I feel that this has stayed with me all my life. My dad’s job gave him the chance to travel to all over the world and he never missed an opportunity to take us with him. As a child I had the opportunity to live in Japan and travel to Nepal, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the US. I have many great memories of my childhood.

I graduated with a degree in Architecture from the Anna University in my home town of Chennai, India. Encouraged by my parents I pursued my masters’ degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  After living in India where the temperature was never lower than 80 degrees, braving the chilly sub zero temperatures of Wisconsin was a huge change! I survived it, made loads of friends, learnt a lot at school, and was rewarded with a job in sunny California. It was fantastic to see the palm trees, it immediately made me feel at home.  I am very fortunate that I love my job , working with software is something I love.

I have a flexible work schedule that gives me a lot of time to pursue my hobbies – playing the piano, running, reading and cooking.  One of my favorite pastimes is watching and experimenting with the recipes featured on the Food Network.

The hardest challenge that I experienced in my life were the three miscarriages I’ve suffered. The support and unconditional love from James and my family helped me overcome the loss I felt. This has made me a stronger person and I am now ready for the next great adventure! I feel that adoption is going to be that next great adventure and a wonderful way to become a parent.

James

I grew up in Oregon and after high school joined the Marines.  I’ve lived in Southern California since 1990.  After spending 4 years in the Marines I went to college in San Diego.  I graduated from San Diego State University.  Since then, I’ve been working for a software company in Redlands, California.

I come from a close knit family.  I’m a fourth generation Japanese-American.  We have a family reunion every other year; a hundred or more family and friends attend the event.  It’s a fun, open and loving environment.

As a kid I always loved sports, I played most of the sports offered in my home town.  I still enjoy living an active lifestyle.  Uma and I love to hike, bike, run and swim regularly.  We love to cook and we love to eat, hence the need to live an active lifestyle.

As a father, I want to draw from my life’s experience to provide the love and support I was given as a child.  Most importantly, I want to be a father who loves his child unconditionally.   My experiences in life range from the decisions I made as kid, the years I spent in the Marines, living on my own since the age of 19, putting myself through college and finally figuring out how to be a responsible adult.

I dream of the joy and the challenges that fatherhood will bring.  I look forward to fulfilling that dream through becoming an adoptive parent.

New Beginnings

Our son, Kailash was born on September 28th 2010.  7lbs 4ozs and 18 inches, a perfect and health little boy.  We lucky enough to be at the hospital and were a part of each others lives from the first moments.  It has been 6 months and every moment has been a blessing and a joy.
